First Day in Barcelona
We arrived at the hotel and had to add one more person to the room. At first the hotel front desk person said they didn’t have a triple room and by law you cannot accommodate three people in a double; therefore, we were going to have to stay in the double plus a single. The cost for the single was going to be more expensive than the double. After the front staff searched for minutes, he finally was able to find a triple room. The room had three twin beds and hardly any space left. The bathroom was comfortable. The shower only has half door (and this was true for everywhere we stayed in Europe) so the floor was always wet after the shower and every bathroom has a bidet. The room also had a safe and a TV. Every hotel that we stayed at we had to show them our passports. They make a photocopy and keep it with the reservation. The hotel was walking distance to restaurants and the bus stop.
The next morning we had breakfast at a small café. Every café there has an espresso machine and fresh bread. Also, many of the café have pastries. This is not the place to go when you are on a diet. We walked to the bus stop. On the short walk to the bus stop we saw a meat store. In Barcelona you will be able to find all types of meats. Jabugos, Pata Negra, Bellota, chorizo, loin from the south of the country, but also the Catalan sausages as “fuets”. As mentioned before I am a chorizo girl and my mom is a “fuets” lady. We can eat that all day. It is very interesting to see all the different kind of meats and how they sell them. If you go to the market, you will see the hams hanging from the wall, you will see chickens with their heads still attached and rabbits. You will also find a great variety of cheeses and wines. Take advantage of all the fresh foods you will find.
Primer Dia en Barcelona
Llegamos al hotel y tuvimos que añadir una persona más a la habitación. Al principio la persona de recepción del hotel dijo que no tenía una habitación triple y por ley no se puede acomodar a tres personas en una habitación doble; por lo tanto, íbamos a tener que permanecer en el doble más uno de un sencillo. El costo del sencillo iba a ser más caro que el doble. Después de que el personal de recepción buscó durante minutos, finalmente fue capaz de encontrar una habitación triple. La habitación tenía tres camas individuales y apenas queda espacio. El baño era cómodo. La ducha sólo tiene media puerta (y esto era cierto para todas partes en las que nos alojamos en Europa) por lo que el suelo siempre estaba mojado después de la ducha y cada baño tiene un bidé. La habitación también tenía una caja fuerte y un televisor. Cada hotel en el que nos alojamos tuvimos que mostrarles nuestros pasaportes. Hacen una fotocopia y la guardan con la reserva. El hotel estaba a poca distancia de restaurantes y la parada de autobús.
A la mañana siguiente desayunamos en un pequeño café. Todas las cafeterías tienen cafetera de espresso y pan recién hecho. Además, muchos de los cafés tienen dulces y pasteles. Este no es el lugar para ir cuando estás a dieta. Caminamos hasta la parada de autobús. En el corto paseo a la parada de autobús vimos una tienda de carne. En Barcelona podrás encontrar todo tipo de carnes. Jabugos, Pata Negra, Bellota, chorizo, lomos del sur del país, pero también las salchichas catalanas como “fuets”. Como mencione antes soy una chica de chorizo y mi mamá es una dama “fuets”. Podemos comer eso todo el día. Es muy interesante ver todos los diferentes tipos de carnes y cómo las venden. Si vas al mercado, verás los jamones colgando de la pared, verás pollos con sus cabezas todavía unidas y conejos. También encontrará una gran variedad de quesos y vinos. Aproveche todos los alimentos frescos que encontrará.
