Milan, Italy
We made it to Milan and after our great ordeal with the airline we go to pick up the car we had reserved. The rental place tells us that the car we had for seven passengers was not available anymore since it was returned with busted windows. We told them it was ok since two of our team members did not come with us. In place of the car we had rented they gave us a Nissan for five passengers. A little SUV. We agreed with it and went ahead and also rented the portable GPS that also was a phone and a hot spot. We found our car and soon noticed that five Puertoricans are not the same as five Europeans. Were we tight in the back seat!!! LOL. We managed to pack our bags and decided to make the best out of it. We left the airport towards the place where we had to pick up the keys for the Airbnb we had rented. We were in the highway and noticed a toll plaza. We didn’t know that we had to grab a ticket; therefore, we ran the toll. Then we saw another toll and we figured we just pay whatever we had to pay; well, our first big mistake in Milan, but a lesson nonetheless; we had to take a ticket at the other toll and because we didn’t we received a 48 euro fine. Now we are on our way to the center of Milan to pick up the keys. While our driver is out, I noticed the engine light on the vehicle was on and almost immediately a strong antifreeze smell. I tell them that we have to go to the nearest Hertz and exchange this car. Luckily it was about 5 to 10 minutes from where we were. When we arrived, the car radiator exploded. Water everywhere, smoke everywhere and an Italian man screaming at one of us, the one who was driving, to get out of this parking lot while she was explaining to him that this thing was broken. The Italian man insults her in Italian just to be surprised she knew how to insult in Italian too. Yikes. While all this is happening I run inside the rental car place and I am telling the person we need help. Obviously she is not understanding my English nor my Spanish so I end up saying SOS. Finally they come outside and see the disaster the Nissan had done. They helped us by getting us another rental (another Nissan) and then we were on our way. The Airbnb did not have a parking spot so we had to park at the public parking, the cost for this was 35 euro plus 5 euro to go into the city of Milan. We parked and walked to our Airbnb; which was excellent. It has an elevator and it has A/C in most rooms and living room. It was spacious, beautiful, clean and close to everything. We walked to a nearby restaurant and then walked to the center of Milan. The people in Milan are fashionable, elegant, beautiful and nice (except for the man mentioned beforehand; smh). After eating we walked to Milan Church (Duomo di Milano). What an impressive view! The church is beautiful and the details are superb. It is on Piazza del Duomo. It is the fifth largest church in the world with the most statutes. After walking around Milan we went back to the restaurant where we ate to buy water since we didn’t have any. We were charged 2.50 euro for each bottle. We went back to our Airbnb to take a well deserved night’s rest. Our first day in Italy was exhausting.

Llegamos a Milán y después de nuestra odicea con la aerolínea vamos a recoger el coche que habíamos reservado. El lugar de alquiler nos dice que el coche que teníamos para siete pasajeros ya no estaba disponible ya que fue devuelto con ventanas rotas. Les dijimos que estaba bien ya que dos de los miembros de nuestro equipo no vinieron con nosotros. En lugar del coche que habíamos alquilado nos dieron un Nissan para cinco pasajeros. Un pequeño SUV. Estábamos de acuerdo con él y seguimos adelante y también alquilamos el GPS portátil que también era un teléfono y un hot spot. Encontramos nuestro coche y pronto nos dimos cuenta de que cinco puertorriqueños no son lo mismo que cinco europeos. Estábamos apretados en el asiento trasero!!! lol. Nos las arreglamos para empacar nuestras maletas y decidimos hacer de nuestro tiempo lo mejor. Salimos del aeropuerto hacia el lugar donde teniamos que recoger las llaves para el Airbnb que habíamos alquilado. Estábamos en la autopista y notamos una plaza de peaje. No sabíamos que teníamos que coger un boleto; por lo tanto, corrimos el peaje. Entonces vimos otro peaje y pensamos que sólo pagamos lo que teníamos que pagar; bueno, nuestro primer gran error en Milán, pero una lección, sin embargo,; teniamos que tomar un billete en el otro peaje y porque no lo cojimos recibimos una multa de 48 euros. Ahora estamos en camino al centro de Milán para recoger las llaves. Mientras la persona que esta conduciendo está fuera buscando las llaves, me di cuenta de que la luz del motor en el vehículo estaba encendida y casi inmediatamente un fuerte olor a anticongelante. Les digo que tenemos que ir al Hertz más cercano e intercambiar este auto. Por suerte estaba a unos 5 a 10 minutos de donde estábamos. Cuando llegamos, el radiador del coche explotó. Agua por todas partes, humo por todas partes y un hombre italiano gritando a uno de nosotros, a la que conducía; estaba gritandole para salir de este estacionamiento mientras ella le explicaba que esta cosa estaba rota. El italiano la insulta en italiano sólo para sorprenderse que también ella sabía insultar en italiano. Ea rayos. Mientras todo esto está sucediendo corri adentro de la casa de alquiler de automóviles y estoy diciendo a la persona que necesita ayuda. Obviamente ella no está entendiendo mi inglés ni mi español, así que termino diciendo SOS. Finalmente salen y ven el desastre que el Nissan había hecho. Nos ayudaron a conseguir otro alquiler (otro Nissan) y luego estábamos en nuestro camino. El Airbnb no tenía un lugar de estacionamiento, así que tuvimos que aparcar en el aparcamiento público, el costo de esto era de 35 euros más 5 euros para poder estar en la ciudad de Milán. Aparcamos y caminamos a nuestro Airbnb; que era excelente. Dispone de ascensor y dispone de aire acondicionado en la mayoría de las habitaciones y salón. Era espacioso, hermoso, limpio y cerca de todo. Caminamos a un restaurante cercano y luego caminamos hasta el centro de Milán. La gente en Milán es de moda, elegante, hermosa y agradable (excepto por el hombre mencionado de antemano; smh). Después de comer caminamos a la iglesia de Milán (Duomo di Milano). ¡Qué vista tan impresionante! La iglesia es hermosa y los detalles son excelentes. Se encuentra en la Piazza del Duomo. Es la quinta iglesia más grande del mundo y la que tiene más estatutos. Después de caminar por Milán volvimos al restaurante donde comimos para comprar agua ya que no teníamos ninguno. Nos cobraron 2,50 euros por cada botella. Volvimos a nuestro Airbnb para tomar una merecida noche de descanso. Nuestro primer día en Italia fue agotador.
