Salamanca is part of the Castile and Leon Region. It is located in northwestern Spain and it is the capital of Salamanca province. It dates back to the Celtic era and it is known for its sandstone architecture. The Universidad de Salamanca was founded in the 1100s; it is one of the oldest universities in Europe. We arrived in Salamanca at night and we drove around the city for a little while. We immediately saw the night life, the student life. We arrived at our hotel after 11:00PM and checked in but noticed that the moon was dissapearing; we didn’t know their was a Lunar Eclipse and we were excited to see it under the sky of Salamanca. We walked to a park, where kids were still playing at that time while their parents ate and drank from a local bar. We ordered some drinks and food and also sat at the park to eat. There we had the perfect view of the eclipse. The night was calm and the sky was clear; we couldn’t have asked for a better night. We drank some Claras (beer with lemonade); and ate some traditional Jeta is a meat-based recipe consisting of roasted pork cheeks, served up in bite-sized portions. Delicious! The next morning, we drove around town a little more. This city is truly a College place; everywhere you turn is packed with students and the energy is great! We had breakfast at this little restaurant and we had to eat the Jeta again. We also had Tortilla Española, Croquetas, Empanada and freshly squeezed orange juice. Everything was delicious and the owner was very sweet. From here we stopped by at a market where we bought some food to take with us on our journey to Porto and we found some amazing sales on shoes, a girl cannot have too many shoes. We also bought some goat cheese and chocolates. Now we are ready to drive to Porto, Portugal.
Salamanca es parte de la región de Castilla y León. Se encuentra en el noroeste de España y es la capital de la provincia de Salamanca. Se remonta a la era celta y es conocido por su arquitectura de piedra arenisca. La Universidad de Salamanca fue fundada en los años 1100; Es una de las universidades más antiguas de Europa. Llegamos a Salamanca por la noche y recorrimos la ciudad un rato. Inmediatamente vimos la vida nocturna, la vida estudiantil. Llegamos a nuestro hotel después de las 11:00 PM y nos registramos pero notamos que la luna estaba desapareciendo; no sabíamos que era un eclipse lunar y estábamos emocionadas de verlo bajo el cielo de Salamanca. Caminamos a un parque, donde los niños todavía jugaban mientras sus padres comían y bebían de un bar local. Pedimos algunas bebidas y comida y también nos sentamos en el parque a comer. Allí teniamos la vista perfecta del eclipse. La noche estaba tranquila y el cielo estaba despejado; No podríamos haber pedido una mejor noche. Bebimos algunas Claras (cerveza con limonada); y comimos Jeta, una comida tradicional de Salanca, es una receta a base de carne que consiste en mejillas de cerdo asadas, servidas en porciones pequeñas. ¡Deliciosa! A la mañana siguiente, recorrimos la ciudad un poco más. Esta ciudad es verdaderamente un lugar universitario; ¡En todos los lugares a los que acude está lleno de estudiantes y la energía es excelente! Desayunamos en este pequeño restaurante y tuvimos que comer Jeta nuevamente. También tuvimos Tortilla Española, Croquetas, Empanada y jugo de naranja recién exprimido. Todo estaba delicioso y la dueña era muy dulce. Nos detuvimos en un mercado donde compramos algo de comida para llevarnos en nuestro viaje a Porto y encontramos algunas ventas increíbles en zapatos, no se puede tener demasiados zapatos por lo tanto, compramos varios. También compramos un poco de queso de cabra y chocolates. Ahora estamos listas para conducir a Porto, Portugal.
