Claras and Watching Almodovar’s movie in Spain

We arrived in Barcelona and took the Metro to our hotel for the next two nights; we stayed at Catalonia Atenas Hotel at the Avenida Meridiana close to El Clot. Nice hotel, offers breakfast, pool on the roof, big rooms and close to most everything. We decided to go see a movie from Almodovar; what better than seeing a Pedro Almodovar movie in Spain?! We had learned that a new movie was out, Pain and Glory, staring Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz, so we were excited to go see it. The closest movie theatre, Cines Verdi, was 45 minutes walking and so we walked. On the way over there we saw the recinte modernista de sant pau barcelona, it was for more than a century the home of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, no longer a hospital but a place to have meetings and events. It does still holds historical archives of the hospital which includes historic books and documents from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. We arrived at the cinema and were a little early as the doors were not opening until 8. Since the Cinema is in the Art District we walked around until 8. We went into a Thai restaurant and ate summer rolls and drank Claras, beer with lemonade. The Thai restaurant was in a plaza where a man was singing, children were playing and people were our eating and drinking. We went back to the cinema and sat to see the movie. I was like a little girl, excited that I was going to see a movie from one of my favorite directors in his mother land. The cinema was small and intimate and it was probably 3/4 full. The movies do not run for a week in the theater like they do here, that night was the only night they were showing the movie. As expected Almodovar delivered. Pain and Gloria (Dolor y Gloria) runs for 113 minutes. It is a drama, rate R and it is written and directed by Pedro Almodovar. Antonio Banderas acting is on point, believable, emotionally engaging and beautifully portrayed. Penelope Cruz is beautiful, honest, mesmerizing and simply perfect. The movie will bring out feelings of despair, pain, heart ache, empathy, as only Almodovar knows how to bring them out of any humans who watch his movies. It is out today in America and if you have a chance to see it, go.

Llegamos a Barcelona y tomamos el metro hasta lo que seria nuestro hotel durante las próximas dos noches; Nos alojamos en el Hotel Catalonia Atenas en la Avenida Meridiana cerca de El Clot. Bonito hotel, ofrece desayuno, piscina en la azotea, habitaciones grandes y cerca de casi todo. Decidimos ir a ver una película de Almodóvar; ¿Qué mejor que ver una película de Pedro Almodóvar en España? Nos enteramos de que había salido una nueva película, Pain and Glory, con Antonio Banderas y Penélope Cruz, así que estábamos emocionadas de ir a verla. El cine más cercano a nosotros, Cines Verdi, estaba a 45 minutos caminando, así que caminamos. La actuación de Antonio Banderas es acertada, creíble, emocionalmente atractiva y bellamente representada. Penélope Cruz es hermosa, honesta, fascinante y simplemente perfecta. La película te dara sentimientos de desesperación, dolor, dolor de corazón, empatía, ya que solo Almodóvar sabe cómo sacar estos sentimientos de cualquier humano que vea sus películas.
