If you prefer not to gamble with your stay, your best bet is to stay at hotels, specifically those that you already know. You can book them through the different travel sites or through them directly. You should still ask questions and make sure that the hotel is at a safe location and the rooms are clean. Read the reviews for each hotel and if it is not to your liking or your expectation, don’t stay. Check on cancellation fees and how far in advance you must cancel. If you stay at hotels often, join their rewards program. Also, take advantage of those hotels with free breakfast (that is one less meal you would need to pay). Check for shuttles to and from airport and if you are able to, book the flight, accommodation and rental cars together as sometimes it will be the best value.
