What to Bring?

It is always good to check what the weather will be like on your destination; we did and the weather was going to be the hottest Europe had seen in years. So I decided to make a list of items that would help me with the dog days ahead.

1. Hand Held Fan: Yes; this is the first thing that came to my mind. If I was going to walk around with blistering hot weather, I was going to have a fan. I found a small, rechargeable fan that saved the day! This fan has three different settings and it’s very silent. Small enough to fit in my purse and powerful enough to help me through the day.
2. Cooling Towel: The cooling towel worked better than I imagined. Just wet and stretch and it actually activates something inside that makes the towel cool. The pros on this towel is that it really works, the con is that you will get wet.
3. Life Straw: I originally bought my life straw for a trip I made to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. I ended up not having to use it; therefore, I took it with me on this trip. Guess what? I didn’t have to use it either but the thought of having it in case I needed it was reassuring enough for me. If you don’t know what a Life Straw is, it is a straw that you can use on any water and the water you drink will be filtered. It removes bacteria, parasites and microplastics and does not have a shelf life.
4. Reusable Water Bottle: I used a water bottle called Subzero. This is an amazing bottle. It kept the water cold the entire day. I would fill it up with ice and water and there would still be ice at the end of the day which is good because you can fill it with water at any fountain yet ice is hard to find, and if you don’t want to drink from any fountain, remember that you have the Life Straw.
   

Other than the hot weather, I knew that we needed to bring the correct currency. We exchanged our US Dollars for Euros. It is more economical to exchange our currency in the US than overseas. It is also more economical than using our credit cards. Every time one uses credit cards overseas one is charged with a fee; therefore, plan your spending wisely and it is always better to bring more than less. You can always exchange them back to US currency at the airport or once you have returned.
Of course, you will also need to bring enough clothes and very comfortable shoes. If you are staying at Airbnb hopefully you will have a washer and dryer but if you are planning on staying at hotels, these hardly ever have laundry for guests to use. You can always go to the laundry mats in the area where you are staying. Remember to also bring your IDs, your toothbrush and your enthusiasm and adventurous self.

Siempre es bueno comprobar cómo será el tiempo en su destino; lo hicimos y el clima iba a ser el más caliente que Europa había visto en años. Así que decidí hacer una lista de artículos que me ayudarían con los días calurosos que venian por delante.

1. Ventilador de mano: Sí; esto es lo primero que me vino a la mente. Si iba a caminar con un calor, iba a tener un ventilador. ¡Encontré un ventilador pequeño y recargable que salvó el día! Este ventilador tiene tres configuraciones diferentes y es muy silencioso. Lo suficientemente pequeño como para caber en mi bolso y lo suficientemente potente como para ayudarme a pasar el día.
2. Toalla de enfriamiento: La toalla de enfriamiento funcionó mejor de lo que imaginaba. Sólo mojala y estirala y en activa algo dentro que hace que la toalla se enfríe. Lo bueno de esta toalla es que realmente funciona, lo malo es que te mojarás.
3. Life Straw: Originalmente compré mi “Life Straw” para un viaje que hice a Puerto Rico después del huracán María. Terminé sin tener que usarlo; por lo tanto, lo llevé conmigo en este viaje. ¿Adivina qué? Yo tampoco lo use, pero la idea de tenerlo en caso de que lo necesitara era lo suficientemente tranquilizadora para mí. Si no sabes lo que es un “Life Straw”, es un sorbeto que puedes usar en cualquier agua y el agua que bebas se filtrará. Elimina bacterias, parásitos y microplásticos y no tiene fecha de expiracion.
4. Botella de agua reusable: Use una botella que se llama Subzero. Esta botella te mantiene el agua fria todo el dia. La llenaba con hielo y agua por la mañana y todavia por la noche tenia hielo. Es perfecta para estos dia de calor ya que el hielo casi ni se consigue pero puedes llenarla de agua en cualquier fuente que encuentres. Si no te quieres ariesgar de tomar el agua, recuerda que tienes el Life Straw.
   

Aparte del clima caluroso, sabía que necesitábamos traer la moneda correcta. Intercambiamos nuestros dólares estadounidenses por euros. Es más económico cambiar nuestra moneda en los EE.UU. que en el extranjero. También es más económico que usar nuestras tarjetas de crédito. Cada vez que uno utiliza tarjetas de crédito en el extranjero, se le cobra una tarifa; por lo tanto, planifique sus gastos sabiamente y siempre es mejor traer más que menos. Siempre puede cambiarlos de nuevo a la moneda estadounidense en el aeropuerto o una vez que haya regresado.
Por supuesto, también tendrá que traer suficiente ropa y zapatos muy cómodos. Si te alojas en Airbnb esperamos que tengas lavadora y secadora, pero si estás planeando alojarte en hoteles, estos casi nunca tienen lavandería para que los huéspedes los usen. Siempre puedes ir a las lavandería en la zona donde te alojas. Recuerda también traer tus identificaciones, tu cepillo de dientes y tu entusiasmo y tu lado aventurero.
